The spiritual journey of a seeker unfolds in three distinct stages: knowing, doing, and being. With enormous grace one gets a desire to pursue a path seeking divine.
Knowing
The first stage, knowing, involves immersing oneself in the wisdom shared by the illumined. This may take the form of reading sacred texts, listening to realised teachers, or watching enlightening discourses. Through this exposure, the seeker gains initial insight and understanding about the spiritual path.
Doing
From knowing arises the stage of doing. Here, the seeker adopts various practices aimed at quietening the mind and deepening spiritual experience. These practices may include Japa (repetition of divine names), chanting, meditation, pranayama (breath control), pooja (worship), and contemplation on the understanding. Over time, these disciplined actions help to internalise the teachings and cultivate a sense of spiritual steadiness.
Being
With sustained effort and practice, doing naturally evolves into being. In this final stage, the seeker attains a state of undisturbed presence, remaining unaffected by external circumstances. It is said that, in this state of being, the distinctions between seeker, knower, and doer dissolve—there is simply the experience of existence itself.
