Freedom is the primary and deepest desire of all. It is a universal longing that shapes our actions and thoughts, guiding us through the journey of life
The beginning of the process of attaining freedom, is through not creating fresh impressions in your mind / memory from new events or experiences of your daily life. By not creating new impressions, you are not adding to existing baggage. It becomes that much easier to unload the old baggage. When no new impression is formed from a present circumstance, past impressions of a similar nature become irrelevant and naturally fade away. In this way, a single effort serves a dual purpose—preventing new baggage and facilitating the removal of the old.
What is meant by stopping creation of new impressions? It is just surrendering to anything that is happening in the current moment. There is no resistance to any event, no matter how painful or difficult it is. It, however, does not mean to be passive or not standing up. It is being assertive without being involved emotionally – an emotional detachment while acting rationally or rightfully in a specific situation.
If the event happens to be pleasant, the detachment is even more important to ensure the positive experiences do not form desires or cravings for their repetition.
Whether the event is pleasant or unpleasant, emotional detachment allows the experience to pass without leaving behind any impression. This means that one neither longs for the recurrence of enjoyable moments nor feels repulsed by the possibility of unpleasant ones. Each incident is simply an isolated occurrence—experienced, acknowledged, and allowed to pass—without contributing to the accumulation of psychological baggage.
